Opera Prima & Old Lady

Mar 08, 2010

The Old Lady continues to win awards. Her latest is a doozy. The Opera Prima award is part of the Ragazzi awards given out at the Bologna Children's Book Fair which is the Big Kahuna of childrens publishing. In short, the 4 top books (internationally) of 2009 are chosen for fiction, non fiction, new horizon and oper prima. The Opera Prima is an award for best "first work" by author or illustrator. It's definitely one of the highest honors a book can receive.

WIN A SIGNED BOOK AND PRINT!

I've always had a peculiar fascination with the traveling gnome. There is something beautifully uncanny about this inanimate object randomly appearing in indiscriminate locations around the world. Where will he travel to next? Nobody seems to know. How he'll get there? We haven't a clue. One day, while typing away, I paused to gather my thoughts and out of the corner of my eye, there sat the Old Lady glaring at me through her over-sized purple rimmed bifocals. I giggled internally and returned to my typing. A few minutes later, I ventured into the kitchen for a glass of water and sitting on the counter, starring eerily, was the Old Lady. Had I left another copy of the book in the kitchen or was I witness to something otherworldly? I knew what I had to do.

I started a Facebook group for those who wish to document and share their Old Lady sightings. It's simple. Upload a pic of the Old Lady and provide a brief description of her whereabouts. There will be random prizes (prints, signed books, fly paper) given out to those who happen to capture footage of the Old Lady in notable venues.
